Recognition of Credits

Index

Definition

Recognition means the acceptance by the Master's Academic Committee of the credits, having been obtained in university studies, and are computed for the purposes of obtaining a University Master's Degree.

This recognition implies the establishment of equivalence in terms of specific and/or generic competencies and workload for the student between the curriculum subjects conducive to obtaining the official degree.

Recognition of Subjects Studied in Official University Studies

Recognition means the acceptance by the Master's Academic Committee of the credits, having been obtained in university studies, and are computed for the purposes of obtaining a University Master's Degree.

The recognitions should always be made from the subjects studied in the school of origen, never from the recognised, validated or previously adapted subjects. This excludes the possibility of recognition of the Final Master's Defense.

It is not possible to obtain recognition of subjects from an undergraduate degree, from first cycle/level degrees (diploma, technical architect or technical engineer), nor from elective subjects. In the case of first and second cycle/level studies, only the credits corresponding to subjects of the 2nd cycle/level will be recognised.

These types of recognitions are regulated by Article 4 of the Academic Regulations of Official Master's. For more information, follow this link.

Recognition of Subjects Studied in Unofficial University Studies

These can be recognised credits obtained in conducive university studies for the acquirement of other degrees (own titles), as long as there is an equivalence between the subjects of curricula, in terms of specific and/or generic skills and workload for the student.

In order to implement the recognition, the student's degrees must meet the following conditions:

  • They must be graduate level.
  • These studies must be enroled in the Register of Universities, Centres and Titles (RUCT) or have been approved by the Governing Council of the university within the academic programming.
  • They must have a minimum of 60 ECTS.
  • The conditions of access for the student's degree to be recognised must be at least those required to access a university Master's degree.

They are considered equivalent for the purposes of recognition corresponding to Master's Degree programs taught by the Polytechnic Foundation of Catalonia (FPC), although they do not have a defined workload in ECTS, provided that the minimum duration of these programmes is 450 teaching hours (45 credits) and always in accordance with the criteria established for this purpose in these regulations.

The maximum number of credits to be recognised is 15 optional ECTS. In any case, between recognition of unofficial university degrees and work experience, no more than 18 ECTS can be recognised (15% of the credits comprising the degree).

Recognition of Credits for Work and Professional Experience

The accredited work and professional experience may be recognised as optional credits that count towards the purpose of obtaining a Master's degree, provided that this experience is related to the qualifications inherent in the studies.

To apply for recognition, it is necessary that the student has performed technical work in a company in the energy industry for at least two years. These credits have no qualification and do not count towards the academic record.

The maximum number of credits to be recognised is 15 optional ECTS. In any case, between recognition of unofficial university degrees and work experience, no more than 18 ECTS can be recognised (15% of the credits comprising the degree).

(2) All of these documents must be official, original, issued by the competent authorities and be legalised through diplomatic channels (visas by the Spanish consulate in the foreign country and subsequently by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Madrid), except for documents issued in countries of the European Union which do not need to be legalised and those issued in signatory states of the Hague Convention of 5/10/61, which only require the corresponding Apostille (abbreviated legislation) by the competent authorities of the country. Regarding documents issued in the signatory countries of the Andrés Bello Convention, adopted in 1970 and amended in November of 1990, can be legalised through diplomatic channels, eliminating the legalisation process by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Madrid. In addition, all documents should be accompanied by their official translation into Spanish or Catalan.
When the copies are certified and legalised by the diplomatic or consular representation in Spain of the country of the applicant, there is no need for them to be accompanied by the original documents.

This process is done at the Academic Management of the EUETIB.

To start, you must request the study of the recognition of credits and pay the corresponding administrative fee (only in the case of a request for recognition of courses of university curricula) before the deadline specified in the academic calendar.

The fee payment can be made at any branch of the Catalunya Caixa bank.
